    From the linked article, it seems that the entity that was sued was a registrant, not a registry (or a registrar); the reporter seems unclear about the distinction between these terms. A Canadian registry would be the organization that operates the .ca top level domain. A registrar would be any of the many companies that take registrations for domains (whether in .ca, .com, .info, .us, or any other TLD). A registrant is the person who registers a domain via a registrar which in turn registers it with a registry.
